Alternative and green solutions hold the key to the energy crisis

Category Green Living

Granted, many developers are already incorporating solar power, invertors and energy reducing utilities into their new builds, but what is even more encouraging is that homeowners in conjunction with some well-renowned estates are doing their part as well.

Recently, Midstream Estate announced that they plan to erect solar plants, install generators (if the need arises) and build an energy bank, all in order to generate their own power and store electricity for residents.

They hope to have the estimated project of R200 million up and running by August this year. Their ultimate aim is to go completely "off-the-grid" (to no longer rely on Eskom for the estate's electricity needs).

O'delia van Wyk, one of Property to Link's Property Professionals, confirms this. "I have experienced a rising demand for off-the-grid living. Due to load-shedding people must take energy efficiency and green living into account."

- From March 1, 2023 (as per the National Budget Speech of 2023), owners will be able to qualify for special tax incentives if they install rooftop solar panels.
